A Letter to the first President of Nepal
Dear President,
Congratulations for setting new course in Nepal's history as the first President of Republic of Nepal!
Leaping from different huddles, our motherland Nepal has become increasingly aware and can defy any type of plot crushed against its integrity and sovergnity. The latest low and detestable moment for our country came like a very bad dream on last Wednesday in Katmandu in your office, where Nepal's first vice president took his office oath from you in Hindi, a foreign language, and on foreign dress abnegating and humiliating Nepal and more than 25 millions dearest Nepalese. No flurry of apologies can stop the patriots' protest later if it is not correctly in a timely fashion. Moreover, such empty promise of your mate who shared out wrong meaning and metaphor in the very first day will push Nepal in the crevasse of conflict. That stammering and angry incident has been nagging each Nepali ever since? Why Why Why such historical blunder happened in such a history making process for New Nepal Mr President?
Mr President, on 21st July, 2008, entire Nepalese listened to your very impressive interview about national integration on BBC air. We salute your aura. Also, we take comfort in your phrase that you as medical doctor will diagnosis the political disease our country has been suffering for a long time. The disease, our instincts say, is the impasse of hegemony and bad emotions of power. As first medical president please figure out the way to do surgery of a national leakage by forensically reviewing Nepal's past. Right now, please, please take comfort and initiation as Commander in Chief urging Mr Jha to take oath in Nepali language no matter how difficult, uglier, bonier and more unpleasant it becomes to anybody, elsewhere. Mr President, take note: Nepal was never under foreign control. We may have more pockets of poverty however; our national calendar has never been marked of any independent day. Our forefathers were born independently so do we with an innate sense of balance; therefore, we need nobody's hold .We are proud to hold by own strong- arm instinct that tightens us with Nepali language and uniform for ever and ever.
Mr President, our vice president oath in Hindi came at bad timing and with bad intention. No marathon meeting in future can fix that national leakage. Try sowing seed of nationalism from scratch rather than pick up where short-sighted leaders left off. Each leader in highest office of Nepal must swiftly deliver a message and warm integration, not the oath in foreign language. This is the moment of hope when we assuage the pain of Nepalese in post war and dry up the anti- Nepali spirit that deteriorates country health more and more. The next president and his VP may take his/ her office oath in English language following tangible proof and genuflected foot print of your mate. Then, what happens to our integrity Mr President?. Episodes of suffering in this era of globalization recur again and again round the clock to each nation, to be simpler. However, a leader should not be seedy and defenseless. That's what we have learned from your political Guru B.P Koirala whose statement ' take handful of national soil to decide anything in difficult moment for nation' has been guiding and inspiring us for a long time. Many patriots died for the country in the past. Command us to be on battle ground anytime if nation demands. Each Nepali citizen, I believe, sacrifices to save our glorious identity intacted. Ahead of this, earn your credit and be a political pop star without shrinking from your responsibility to your soil and fellow citizen by commanding Mr Jha's oath be scrapped and take his office oath in Nepali Language. When you shake your hand at the end of your ceremony with your VP, please do not forget to pose him a question closely looking at his eyes on the behalf of all Nepali citizens - Do you really love Nepal?
With emotion, admiration and deep gratitude,
HB Bhandari Prabhat
